About Rent Receipts for HRA

Rent receipts are required to claim House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption from taxable income.

When Rent Receipts are Required:

• If annual rent exceeds ₹1 lakh, rent receipts are mandatory
• Landlord's PAN required if annual rent > ₹1 lakh
• Keep receipts for all months to claim HRA exemption

What to Include in Rent Receipt:

• Tenant name and landlord name
• Monthly rent amount
• Period for which rent is paid
• Property address
• Landlord's signature
• Revenue stamp (₹1 if rent > ₹5,000/month)

Important Points:

• Generate separate receipts for each month
• Get landlord's signature on each receipt
• Affix revenue stamp if monthly rent exceeds ₹5,000
• Keep receipts safely for tax filing
